Just picked this up for $250, it'll be my third. I play an identical 6.5" version with die cast hoops. Always wanted to try this eight lug, 5.5" model. Single ply maple w/o re-rings. Still don't know why they have not caught on...

I've always wanted to try one of these. It's the only single-ply I know of w/o re-rings. Do they stay in round OK?

Yes! Pearl used a micro wave instead of a steam cabinet to soften the plank for bending. When finished they let the shell sit for 90 days before moving on with edges, paint and hardware.

They should move the plant to Fukushima and start making these again.

They continued to make them for a time in Tawain and sold them exclusively in Asia. I've seen single ply w/re-rings in some of their concert snares and they came out with a Custom Classic Legend in Japan about 10 years ago.

To quote the Japanese:

"Custom classic" has been loved by many drummers since its launch in 1989, is finished in the advanced molding technology of roundness extremely high shell Maple one piece of the astonishing thickness of 7.5 mm (single version) "famous" and is referred to as model, characterized by pleasant sound sensitive and a cracked stick."

I have never seen those bridge style lugs before.

They make for an easy conversion on the 6.5" model.

Never play it the same way once.
