Well, like I said, I bought them online and I thought they would suit my needs. But it's ok, I'll probably just keep them for awhile.

WOW those are real nice and I personally love the sound of Camco drums .
I once purchased a vintage kit without playing them, although they weren't as expensive and sought after as these. (mine was a vintage Pearl President in Gold Grain Pearl). The sound wasn't quite what i expected and had heard about these drums. But i did end up selling them for double what i paid for it, which was a bonus.
All of my kits were purchased in project/orphan state. So I had no idea what they sounded like. Some really surprise and some were a bit of a let down at first. I also buy cymbals sight unseen/unheard. I'm such a rebel. :D
Sorry to hear these really don't suit your playing. Maybe you can trade for a nice Gretsch RB kit? Those Camco's look in beautiful condition! When I think Camco drums I hear CCR's Doug Clifford.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Ya they sure are beautiful!
Thank you!

I buy drums all the time without playing them and not once have I gotten a drum I couldn't live with to include all my Camco drums.
I'm not defending Camco drums but this is the first I've ever heard of someone not satisfied with the sound... I think in this case it sounds like a perfect case of "buyers remorse" mainly because of the high cost it took to owning such a set of Oaklawn Camco drums.
P.S., I have several vintage 20/12/14 Gretsch RB kits if you would like to trade... PM me.

Are You located in Europe? I have Gretsch kits, maybe something will interest You...

I'm in the same camp. Sort of. I purchased a Camco a few years ago. Saw it in person and bought it but without playing it. It sounds good, not great though. Just my opinion. I'll try to sell them eventually I think.
My 1970s Slingerlands are my best sounding drums. And I got them few a few hundred bucks.

I've had this happen with other drums as well. Some years ago I bought an early 60's wmp Ludwig that I could not get to sound right. I have an MIJ kit I use occasionally that sounds terrific and I payed diddly for them. Sometimes it's hit and miss with these vintage drums.
It's hard to know exactly what people are talking about, or dissatisfied with when they just say they bought a "Camco". There is a world of difference between Oaklawn and LA era, and even within the Oaklawn years there are 3-ply, 4-ply and 6-ply if I'm not mistaken.
I have owned two LA sets, but found them impossible to tune the way I like it. Switched to Rogers and couldn't be happier, they're just set and forget. However I just bought a really early Oaklawn which I have high hopes for. Well I did until I saw this thread, haha.
