First Post, Blue Sparkle Ludwigs early/mid 60s Last viewed: 16 hours ago

So I've been a member here since 2008 apparently, but never posted . . .

Just found a great deal on a SWEEET 60s Ludwig 22/12/16 that appears to consist of a New Yorker kit plus the 16" floor tom. I'm so geeked about it that I have to post it everywhere I can!

12x22 Bass and 8x12 are both pre-serial - clear interior on the bass, white on the tom.

16x16 has what I gathered is likely to be a '64 serial number.

I was playing various vintage franken-kits while gigging regularly from 07 - 14 , with a brief period playing a gold sparkle Ludwig Standard, but this is by far the coolest set I've owned, and it SOUNDS great. After a two year layoff I'm having my first practice with a new band this weekend, and I couldn't be more excited. New Heads, a Script decal and appropriate claws have all arrived in the mail over the last week - and at some point I'll take care of the hoops (I'm in no hurry though)

66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

kcmcc!

First, WELCOME to the VDF! I just want to make mention that you use the ATTACHMENT SYSTEM for posting up pics, and not embed within the text box using a link or photo sharing service. There are many reasons for this!, and one of the worst is that pic files are almost always too large, and they blow the entire thread off the page making reading and navigating difficult. In your case, the pics stayed within the frame of the page, so we will allow as you are NEW here! In the future though, try the attachment manger! We THANK YOU! ENJOY your stay at the VDF!

I also have a New Yorker set from approximately the same era. Those 12x22 bass drums are awesome sounding.

From jccabinets

And hey tell us about the mahogany snare drum please.

That is a Slingerland student model that used to be BDP. I didn't like it and failed to sell it a bunch of times, so I finally stripped it, re-finished it, and found some old marching hoops to make a kind of Levon-Snare if you know what I mean (did this about 8 years ago). It sounds great these days. I don't know if I'd do the same thing again, but I'm glad I did it the once.
