So, this person, to which i can only describe as a big time jerk, posts an ad on my local classifieds for a Remo Ambassador coated 18" drum head, and says he paid $57.00 brand new at my local music shop. Little does this idiot know that i'm friends with all who work at the shop, and know how much a drum head goes for up here in my province. He states in the ad that the drum head is "a steal" at $35.00, when in actuality, it's just about the actual price of the head brand new. Furthermore, he says he only used for "20 minutes", and is like new.. I'm sorry but guys like this seriously need a nice, fat slap upside the head for this blatant false advertisement, and deceitfulness.. I, as well as many other drummers know the true price of this drum head, but what about some young beginner looking for this drum head size at a bargain price because he or she can't afford to buy new at the shop ?

This REALLY ticks me off..

So much so, that i emailed him a link from my music shop's website, with another link to another website which calculates prices and taxes in Canada, just to spite this idiot's price quote. I've stated this just today on vintage drum bug's thread about an overpriced Ludwig Accent drum kit idiotically attempting to be passed off as a vintage Ludwig kit like "Ringo used".. There's ignorance, and then there's sheer stupidity.. But this, is just outright audacity and deceit, and a cheap attempt at making a few measly bucks off some poor kid or person who doesn't know much about drum heads or prices. Check out the links for his insane price, and the actual price from the shop's site that i sent him..

I think those same thought every time I go to the local music stores and see a $27.00 Coated Ambassador Batter Head for a freaking snare drum. I don't shop local for heads. I cant afford it.

If I drive the 80 mile round trip....I can pay under 15.00 for it.

So it isn't just predators on CL ripping off those who don't know.

I don't know if you guys are anywhere near a metro area, but if so you might look your local backline company and give them a call. I get my drum heads slightly used from these guys because they usually change them every time a kit gets rented, at least for toms and snares. I used to pay em a couple bucks per head, but I bought one of their used kits last year and since then they just give them to me for free. Haven't bought a new drum head in several years.

So , the guy emails me back with this : "Thank you, i guess they didn't raise the prices online yet. I’m going to go back and get a refund on the difference. If your interested in it, make me an offer. I’m on the road for work and will be back on the 28th.

Thank you and regards,"

And then a second email with this--

Actually, my bad..you clicked the tom tom head. Bass drum head is BR-1118, pic is below with price. I’ve never been screwed by Steve’s in the 30 years I’ve been shopping there. BUT if you want to make me an offer, I’ll seriously consider it".

So, i guess the guy made a mistake.. I had no idea however, that there is a difference between an 18" Coated Ambassador tom head and an 18" Coated Ambassador 18" bass drum head.. Since when is there a difference ??

The only thing I imagine is different, and its been a while since I had a 18" BD is the collar so it fits a wood hoop vs a Tom Hoop. I might be imagining it though, I'm thinking out loud as I type.

I was at Steve's at 51 Rue Saint Antoine 8 or 9 years ago. My son picked up a very nice 22" KCon MTH there. Very nice store. Friendly and helpful staff. I got the impression it was the premier music store in Montreal.
