I don't know a lot about Rogers... but I believe this set was from the era that was WAY past Rogers' prime. Am I correct on this?

The Ploughman - what makes you advise against? I ask so that I myself don't ever fall into a trap of over paying for something that isn't worth it.

Yes. Post-bankruptcy imports.
If the badge doesn't say "Rogers USA" on it, walk away.
Head Ploughman's and 73Rogers warnings! I, too, have many decades of experience with Rogers drums. Looking at the pictures, I first noticed the lack of "USA" on the badges, in addition to the import floor tom legs, steel bass drum hoops and an overall cheaper finish of the black wrap. Just walk away from these and don't look back!

These are the import shells used after Rogers went under an the name sold. You likely can find a late Memriloc era for $400 without snare /hardware. Look for USA included on the badge to be sure of the good stuff.
These drums are from the brief... Island Music Import era, aprox. 1987-89/90. Quality started out below the closing of Rogers USA. And it went straight down the pipe. You can find very nice late Big R sets under 500 mostly, a lot of times including a Steel SuperTen (very good drum) or a COB Dyna-Sonic. There is a Tobacco Sunburst Lacquer set on SF craigslist at 950. They looked really good from the pics. Not bad for a rare set. Or you can find any number of very good condition Big R sets for under 500.
