Ludwig 1968 9x13 Club Date Tom: where did it come from? Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Loading...

A couple years back I acquired a great Club Date kit in BDP with a variety of different year drums.

While I know the 8x12 is standard with the CD set up, I also received a beautiful 9x13 as well.

The serial number 635131 dates to 1968.

I do not see any cataloged kits that may have had a 9x13 with them from that year though the earlier Combo did but by 67 it was an 8x12 as well.

The bass drum is a 14x20 SN-644834 from 1968 as well. Both the 68 drums have the clear wood interior & no paint.

The option of either or both is nice.

Just a one off due to the volume of drum being produced?

The set may have been ordered with both toms. Ludwig was good with special orders.

In the late 50's and early 60's club date toms were 13's usually.

According to the Chief, Club Date outfits were a good way to get rid of all the big bowties and 12x15 shells they had sitting around the factory back in the late 50's.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

It came from here...the 1971 (or earlier ) catalog. The sets shown in the catalogs were just the tip of the iceberg on what you could order if you were the least bit creative.

Thanks everyone. I've never seen that catalogue pic so thanks for posting!

This is why I come to the forum & ask.

I'm learning more every day.
