Is this a brass shell MIJ?

I've just bought this Gables Import Corp MIJ snare. It looks like a Slingerland Sound King knock off. I don't have the drum yet, but my gut tells me it's a brass shell like the Slingy SK. Anybody have any information on these snares?

Thanks in advance for any information. (I liked the badge so I bought it)

Look at pic # 3 you can clearly see a brass hoop.

Those look like Star lugs and a partial Star strainer to me. A Star stencil I would think.

Yes, I'm aware of what it is. Star, Hoshino, blah, blah, whatever. I honestly don't care abut that. I just want to know if it's brass or not. I know that some of those Star snares were indeed brass drums. I'm hoping that this is one of those.

I've owned many of those in years gone by. There's always the possibility that I'm wrong, but if so please show me to be wrong and I'll plead guilty to 'jumping the gun' based on false assumptions. (It won't hurt my feelings! I learn something new everyday about vintage drum equipment.)

Quite often what appears as "brass" is in fact the copper plating applied to steel which is showing either due to age and wear, or due to being the area held when the metal was dipped into to the chromium plating, therefore not taking being well chromed in that area. I have presently a very heavy steel shell "Dixie" snare made by Pearl, which has a large section of the interior shell unchromed with a brass-like or 'orange' appearance demonstrating this. My drum, like yours shown in your photos, is dented where it took hard knocks along the years when it was either dropped or shaken around in the bottom of trap during transport.

I am posting a photo of the drum I mention as an example

By the way, I'm sure your drum sounds nice. My critique should in no way be taken as a slight of the drum's performance worthiness.

We'll know as soon at it arrives. I know that the odds are stacked against this drum being brass. I normal think of all of these MIJ snares to be either A. steel or B. firewood, but there are a few that were brass. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is one of those, but it probably is steel. I'll let you know when it arrives.

You say your "gut" feeling tells you the drum is brass. Didn't you ask questions before you bought it? You asked for "any information on these drums" and you responded with "blah, blah, whatever". If you knew the drum was a MIJ, why isn't it posted in the correct section? When people respond to your post, at least show the decency of replying respectfully even if it is not the response you want.

OK, I may have come across a bit rude, but was not my intention. I am aware it's a MIJ snare and MIJ doesn't particularly interest me so it's all blah, blah, whatever. Star, Pearl, who give's a $*#%. I just want to know if it's brass. Thanks for weighing in on it. I appreciate it. I really do, but I just wanted to know if it's brass or steel. I didn't ask the seller if it was brass. I had a feeling the seller wouldn't know. It was an impulse buy at 12 dollars.
