Bought a 3 pc Slingerland kit last week but...

Hi guys, I bought a blue sparkle Niles gold/black badge Slingerland

this past week but noticed something somewhat odd under 2 of the drums wraps.

Little bumps, 1 each, under the wrap on the kick bump under the floor tom wrap.

Started to think it might be a re-wrap.

So my question is, what's an easy way to find out if your vintage drum is a re-wrap or not?

Badge grommets look flawless.

The blue sparkle wrap itself is in very good condition, granted the seller told me it was his grandpa's kit bought in '65 or so and stored nicely since but I think the wrap has naturally faded, seems rather dark.

Kit originally had a consolette rail, looks professionaly drilled for a Ludwig mount from the late 60's early 70's but they added the Ludwig tom mount in a way that shows the Slingerland clip mount facing out to the audience.

Other than that this kit is pretty sweet, just a players kit with the mod but a extremely nice players! :)

Pictures below contain other items that were purchased with this kit:

Eric you just answered your question the grommets on Slingerlands with the year model you have are not easy to get replacements for, I only know One place and then you'll need the special tool to install them which is no longer available.

I believe I have a spade that would take care of the offset.

If I didn't know better, I'd say that looks like it was originally a 1N ensemble.

Doesn't look like the FT legs are original.

Very nice looking kit, love the blue sparkle.

Not sure what that is or means sir?

Something that clips into the original mount and works with a tom arm?

Are you sure the tom shouldn't be flipped the other way so the diamond plate faces the drummer's side? Perhaps whomever had that done preferred to have the muffler on the bottom head, or else they used the set in a left-handed configuration. either would explain the very odd placement of the added on mount.

I don't use the internal mufflers anyway so I'd definitely be flipping that tom over if that were my set..

I don't think it's a 1N, this one has a 20'' kick and a mounted cymbal arm holder on the kick.

I'm also wondering if maybe originally it had a 12 x 8 tom.

If the original owner had added a 13 x 9 , maybe that's when he had the Ludwig double tom mount post installed to have both toms playable.

Then fast forward to 2015 and the 12 x 8 is gone which leaves the 13 x 9 with it's diamond plate facing the audience...

Will flip this turkey around and turn the badge accordingly as well :)
