Here is a pic of a a 70s ludwig bass drum, notice how you can see (barely) that the badge ( i know the badge is blue and olive) is closest to the batter side of the head of the bass drum? I've never seen it like this before
drum ID
you can barely see the badge its hiding right behind the tom mount, sorry about the bad picture, all i have
I have a Ludwig bass drum and 10x14" mounted tom just like this one.
could this possibly be a double spur bass turned around with only the back spurs mounted? is there any extra holes towards the batter side? just thinking out loud.
i just noticed...this drum does not have rerings. i didnt know Ludwig made drums without rerings back then. ???

mine isn't, it is a single spurs model
I thought the same thing if it was reversed around, but no I looked hard and well at the pic and couldn't see another pair of holes on the opposite of the drum for the Spurs. Quite strange I'm pretty interested to figure out about this
I got a picture of the blue and olive badge on the bass drum, the serial number is 2235295. If that helps with anything

Maybe if the badge is facing the player, that might suggest a "whimsical" special order; if it's a factory error [mis-located spurs] the badge would face away. I blew up the image and it looks like the olive part is closest to player, so it's facing away [upside down]. But still, the customer may have ordered it that way...
I can't think of a third option beyond special order/error....

I'd say it's actually 80's... That badge placement was common then..... so was that serial number range
Check out (just for example) Big Beat kits... Plus many other models..

I'd agree that that is probably an 80's drum (pre-1984 when they went to the big Keystone badge). It's a six ply shell (or at least it's not a 3 ply) so that puts it after 1977-78ish. The fatter spurs were also a late 70's thing. Also the white cortex finish was a popular trend in the 80's more than the 70's.
Does the badge have sharp corners in the upper right and lower left or are they rounded?
I don't recall where they were placing the badges in the 80's but they may have moved them closer to the player...actually I think they did because the drums that came with the modular hardware (introduced around 1980) would have the tom mounting bracket biased towards the front edge of the bass drum over top where the earlier badges were. This drum isn't using that type of hardware but they would have adopted that placement on all their drums.
