Hi all,

I'm closing in on buying these drums. It's a 16" bass drum with a 9" rack tom.

Can anybody help shed some light on what these drums are?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe the lugs are a home made deal. Kind of look it. Bent steel and a hole to capture and guide the T-rods. Maybe US or English shells??? MIJ maybe?? Shells with homemade hardware flair? Looks interesting and worth the ride to check out if close by or seller can send inside shell pics. That might at least tell you more about the shells.

That is a fairly common 60's-70's MIJ kid's set configuration.

Thanks guys. I had a feeling it was a kids set. I had never seen those lugs before though. It seems like the really spared no expense with those lugs. I still think it's really cool!

Kids drums or no, if they have nice shells, it'll make for a cool start on a bop/jungle kit. How do they sound?

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Hi John, I've no idea how it sounds, but it's definitely got the look that I go for. I'll let you know as soon as I get them which will be in about a week. I just had to have these.

Took me a while - the tom is 9" *diameter*, got it! :) [I immediately thought 9X13"]

Love the minimalist casings. Curious they didn't go the whole cheap hog and use the little single-point guide tabs as pictured [okay it's a Gretsch in the pic [and from the VDF] but MIJ used em a lot too].

OTOH maybe it was cheaper to make those casing out of bent flat stock than fabricating the single tabs.

Anyway nice little kit, looks like a blast to play especially the 16" bass drum! Enjoy!

They were made by "Star"... There are a couple of threads on here about them. I had one for my kids back in the 70's... They came with a snare & FT... have not seen that colour wrap on them previously though.

Cheers

John
