Two cymbal mounts on '64 ludwig bass drum? Last viewed: 1 second ago

I'm not sure how one would define "factory correct" since the factory was willing to build drums in almost any way the customer requested (within certain limits). Custom lacquer colors, custom rail placements, double mufflers, double spurs, extra cymbal mounts, a 20" or 24" bass drum instead of a 22", all you had to do was ask through your dealer and they'd do it for you.

Now "catalog correct" is a different matter I guess, as there are those that discount anything that isn't shown in a catalog picture. I don't quite follow that thinking myself as the factory would make what you wanted (see above), or combine whatever sizes you wanted into a non-cataloged set. Even dealer or customer added parts, like an extra cymbal mount bracket should be considered valid provided that they are the correct vintage and were installed properly. Sure, a super classic or downbeat set with Pearl mounts installed is a "player" and worth considerably less but a set with a proper Ludwig extra cymbal mount correctly installed really shouldn't be considered any less desirable...perhaps it would even be more desireable to someone who wanted to put a cymbal there.

Regardless, that will be a very cool set when you get it fixed up.

So here is a shot of the drums as they are now.

Looks like the bass drum was drilled for the extra cymbal holder and an additional hole for maybe a MIJ cymbal holder?

The floortom legs are really long and straight.

The whole kit is pre-serial including the snare.

I am going to find some time this week to head over to my friends house and sort through a box of hardware to sort out what goes along with this kit and what is left over from his rogers and Camco sets.

Just plain giddy.

Yes a really fun project! The kit is super sweet. What's the deal again though? You get to keep them or fixin them up for the owner?

I'm helping to fix them up for the owner. It's a deceased family members drum set and has too much sentimental value for him to sell. There were other sets(a Camco 5pc and a rogers double bass concert tom set) that were stolen and his insurance covered just enough to buy a new Premier Xpk and cymbals. Luckily the downbeat was in the attic safe from Thieves.

Belive me I would love to own them, but I'm actually thankful someone in his family actually cares enough to want to take care of them.

The current owner is a guitarist and wants to stabilize the set to keep in his home studio.

I can't argue with that.

Me neither. Plus if he ever does decide to sell, guess who's first in line?

You. That's who. :)

Nice of you to help save these. If the snare's pre-serial, too, it could be COB.....marko

I've been down that road before.

I have a pre serial supraphonic, red felt, crimped snare bed, cob hoops...

...ludalloy shell. I had always thought it was brass because a magnet wouldn't stick to it. Then I picked up an actual brass super sensitive and the weight difference is what clued me in.

I actually LOVE that snare. It's been my main snare since I was a teenager.
