I through the Gretsch hoop and head and hoop mounted spurs on it - cute huh.
The only problem is the t-rods are too long and they hit the end of the lugs before the head can be tuned. The head is just sitting loosely on there. I could put an inch or so spacer above the claws. Just wanted to see what the drum looks like as a bass drum.
I realize the wood hoop has to be on the batter side - to accommodate the bd pedal. I'm thinking the clip-on spurs might attach to the metal hoop. If not, a person could get another wood hoop, t-rods and claws easy enough and cut the t-rods down to fit properly.
I suspected that may be the case with the long T rods.. sort of confirms that the FT originally had a standard "Stick Saver" rim. My guess that it was part of a mid 70's Super Rock kit. On the 18's and 20's FT that I have seen fitted with the wood hoop, it appears to me that the Lugs are fitted further back on the shell to accommodate T rods. (Cannot confirm it but that's how they appear) .. someone may know..

It is a very nice shell. And, if someone wanted to have it as a floor tom all they need is another hoop and as a bass drum maybe a couple of nice wood hoops, the clip-on spurs and buy 16 used t-rods and claws and cut them down.....a very nice bass drum.
Gary - All you have to do is to add a 1/4" - 3/8" spacer/sleeve between the T-rod and the claw and problem solved. The T-rods will have extra travel/not bottom out inside the lugs and the drum should tune right up.

Yes John - that's what I thought too. The batter side will have the wood hoop and these t-rods n' claws. The resonant side may be alright leaving the metal hoop but the clip-on spurs will have to have a shim between the metal clamp and the metal hoop to work properly. A better and - better looking - solution is go with two wood hoops and buy more t-rods and claws on eBay. But that's not for me - that is for whomever ends up with this drum. I'll hold onto it until someone needs / wants it.
