Hi Glenn!
Thanks! The aged WMP (antique) looks very nice.

Well... I KNEW you would! The set would have had to have been extremely compromised for you to NOT pull the trigger. They did look real good in the eBay pics, so... NICE!!!

Nice score! I still don't understand why Slingerland drums don't demand the price levels of the other 3.
In my experience, the old Gretsch drums just don't have the quality of chrome plating the other 3 do. Slingerland, Rogers and Ludwigs' chrome just seems to be the best(less the Ludalloy shells) back then!
I'd put them up against any 45+ year old drums!
1965 Ludwig Clubdate Oyster Blue
1966 Ludwig Clubdate Oyster Black
1969 Ludwig BB Blue Oyster Keystone Clubdate
1971 Ludwig BB Black Oyster

The issues consisted of:
1 non-original tension rod on the rack tom.
The aluminum bass drum mount and lower COB hoop of each drum has "MCCC xxxx" inscribed on it. It's most likely from a Community College where the kit was used. Done with an etching pen and doesn't go through to the brass.
All 4 bass drum spurs have had the pointed tips cut off, just above where the "C" clip was. I only notice this when I pulled off the rubber crutch tips. Slingerland never used rubber tips on the spurs. Already found 4 nice 14" spurs on eBay!
The Dynamo hi hat clutch was missing some parts, but Dan had other Dynamo clutches and we made one nice one!
Some wear to some of the "torpedo" bass drum handles, to be expected after 40+ years. Nothing serious!
The BR/Artist snare drum needs to be setup properly in relation to how the Zoomatic will best work. I can handle that!
Pulling off the heads, you could still smell the chocolate paint!
Not crazy about the Remo Ambassador Smooth White tom heads! Does anyone use smooth white? Kind of funky, but they are new!
The bass drum hoops look great, with very little wear. Only minor wear from the pedal clamp, but not loss of paint!
No tears, warping or seam lifting from any of the drums. The Marine Pearl has faded to a beautiful antique shade! Inlay strips are perfect!
Narrow base BR cymbal stands all function great. The snare stand is the first year Rocket model with the "quick release" handle. Works great!
Dan actually made the Rogers-style splash arm! He wanted one that was taller than the original Rogers. The only thing that gives it away is that it needs to be chrome plated, which I most likely will do.
The Tempo King pedal is in good condition, too. I have a better one in my collection, but will probably use one of Swivo pedals with the kit.
I noticed a one-piece footboard Swivo pedal sitting next to the kit and asked Dan about it. He said it was there as that's what Buddy would use with the kit...but was not for sale. Oh well!
I plan to swap out chromed Setomatic mounts and tom arm for the aluminum versions, but will hold onto them.
Dan even through in a NOS Slingerland 1969 catalog!
That's about it. I'll pick the kit up on Saturday!

I completely agree! While Gretsch drums command more $$$, they just don't do anything for me. I love Rogers and Slingerland drums!

Now THAT... is a review! Hardly a nit pick, more like you knew EXACTLY what's what, and I'm sure that was not lost on the seller. I'll bet he said to himself that the drums SHOULD go with you! That's great Mark! Buddy fans/freaks that we are... I hunted his Rogers Celebrity's as THAT is where my heart beats, and I think you have a softer spot for his Slingerland period even though you like Rogers too. Those are keepers!, and I especially like the fact that they are EARLY build Slingerland BR 80N's. HARD TO FIND! Beauties Mark!!!

The seller, Dan, was just as much into learning more about the condition as I went through each drum.
You're correct about my "soft spot" for Slingerland! Most likely as it was from my first catalog given to me by me 9th grade music teacher...catalog 68, which was the last one with Gene Krupa on the cover. I really liked looking at the WMP GK 1N kit.
I've had 3 "Buddy" kits, my 1972 Rogers Celebrity and my late 70's 80N, both in Silver Sparkle. I did purchase a 1975 80N about 10 years ago, in Red Sparkle, but sold it. It's time for a WMP kit!

Mark.. Congratulations on a great and substantial purchase.. Beautiful drum set...
