Never played a 20's wood. I'm intrigued. Both have been refinished and IMO look great. Correct me if I'm wrong but I assume they sound very close to one another.

I would choose your 2nd one, It has no extra holes filled only a finsh refin has been performed. offer him $450.00 on your 1st try on his offer option?Yes they would be very similar in sound.
Adds say 1 is mahogany. 2 is maple.
Noticed this on #1. Is that a muffler or heater?
The mahogany will produce a warm, woody tone, but not much volume/projection. The maple will be a bit brighter, louder and project a little better than the mahogany snare. What the mahogany snare has going for it, is the warmth and FAT tone that you get from that wood. Both woods are very 'musical' in that they sound good when used to make instruments. Depending on what you're looking for in terms of sound, you have a good A/B choice here between these two snares.

Pretty sure that's a muffler......marko
