Hi Wayne,

I didn't see the one you were referencing, but just found it on Ebay. Wow, currently at $770! There is another 6.5", in near-new condition, but without the snare bridge, that started at $500 and is currently at $520! I guess these are in demand!

Nice drum but looks like a lot of rust on the hoops and on the underside of top flange. No big deal but for $830 the thing should be pristine.. Also the photos are definitely manipulated and washed out to make it look brighter so the scratches are not so obvious. You can tell by how distorted it looks in spots. Just my two cents. Still a nice drum.

Mark and SC,thanks for taking the time to search it out.I forgot you can`t move an ebay link to VDF anymore.I just searched for it again but couldn`t find it? This is the highest price i`ve seen them go for and agreed about the washed out pics and rusty hoop.

Wow, ended at $1315. I'll be surprised if this transaction doesn't take a turn and the drum is back up in a week or two. That drum has scratches all over it, rust and who knows what else. Crazy.

Here is the item number. Copy and paste into ebay ...

I know why.

Banda.

These things are like GOLD in this little niche of Latino music. I have personal knowledge of an early 2nd gen 6.5 Rogers Dyna-Sonic in pristine collector grade condition, sold right about 1100.00. Seller was then paid to remove the throw off, the BB lugs, hoops, and frame and replace throw with elongated, lugs with beavertails, hoops to die cast, frame to a Fullerton style. And it got done.

If you have a 6.5... you can get good money for it in almost any playable condition.

Is there much of a difference between this drum and the later big R version?

Thanks.

Had no idea these 6.5 dynas were fetching that kind of $ and this one wasn`t in that great of condition.Ending at $1,315 Usd equates to about$1,650 Can. and that`s a record for a cob dyna in my books.

This drum is different from later drums.

First gen beavertails, 1963/very early 64. An above excellent condition. Who knows where it might end up.

He is a good guy to deal with. Hope he doesn't get burned on this. Quality stuff, and a great guy.

Ploughman,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the snare hoop on a '63-64 Dyna be a "High-Boy" with the "Twisted" snare guards? The 1964 catalog shows the 7-line Dyna as having the twisted guards rather than the later "folded" guards:

[Attachment: 82704] [Attachment: 82705] [Attachment: 82707]

It looks like the rusty, bottom hoop on this drum is a replacement. Probably doesn't matter one bit to the buyer who is obviously spending that much money to play this drum rather than display it on a shelf. What do you think?
