Here's a few pictures from last night at the Hilton Hotel. I took these before the rest of the band arrived.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

The coordinator of this event did a poor job. We were scheduled to play from 7;15-9:15, they cut us to an hour because they had other acts. The other so called acts were lame, a guy sitting on a bed of nails, telling bad jokes, an amateur Hawaiian dance troop and a magician doing cheap magic tricks.

All of these acts came after us, which seemed stupid, they should had been on before us. There were suppose to be 150 people, but there was only about 50 during our set as well as the acts that followed. After our set, one of the bartenders told me that there was a lot of people coming from a dinner that had gone on a bit longer and they were disappointed that the band had already finished.

By that time, we had already loaded out. At least they didn't cut our pay.

I suppose they thought they needed to tame the flames a bit. Hmmm, might be a good name for a band - Tame the Flame. No, can't do that without stepping on Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames.

Nice kit Johnny! Too bad about the short gig, but too good about getting all your dough.

Yah, it's great you got paid, but it still sucks playing to a near-empty room. I don't know how some of you feel about gigs, but I'd rather play for free to a large, appreciative crowd than get paid to play to an empty room (and I've had more than a few of those gigs).

And that Blue Satin looks great! I never appreciated those satin finishes in the 60's (thought they looked a little too cocktail loungy), but over the years I've developed a real admiration for them. Very pretty.

All the guys and gal in the band love this kit. The first thing the guitarist said when he saw them on stage was, those look very cool. I know a lot of west coasters in surf bands like this finish.

I always liked satin flame, especially the blue or green and this kit sounds great.

This kit looks great... love that white socks look... takes me back to my first Slings in that finish..

Too bad about the gig.. best part for me of NYE gigs is the countdown & the first half hour of the new year... (Still, you probably got the chance to hug someone at midnight) even if just the bass player...

Cheers

John

Do they ever kid you about how many kits you go through? :p
