It would be hard to find someone to fill in for Phil. Not many are willing to play the standard rock beat for three straight hours, with only a random cymbal crash here or there....LOL.

I would if they asked.

Think about it: For this gig, every drum, cymbal, and head manufacturer would be keen to supply your every need. The catering wouldn't be bad and the hotels would all be five star. Plus there would probably be plenty of companionship …

I'd even move to New Zealand for that job.

I would drum for them. Covered their songs in one band before and already play Sonor. Hope it all works out for him.

How tough are the drug laws in NZ? And does anybody know what type of drugs were found? It makes a difference in terms of severity of the charges.

Rudd would not be the first rock star busted for dope... The dude is 60! What's he doing? Snorting Viagra???

They say any press is good press. Not sure about this though. I really don't buy into the drive by media. They will print or say anything to get readers.

What bothers me more than anything is how this guys privacy is being violated left and right in the media and nobody generating it, or who consumes it, seems to think that it's an issue. No big deal... "This is the boat where Rudd is alleged to have brought prostitutes!" one report proudly proclaims. So f'king what? What does that bit of Rudd's personal life information have to do with anything? I'm just saying... it's bad enough the news of his arrest is all over the media, now they're going to expose every little behavior and act that doesn't meet their up-tight provincial little standards. Standards that none of them adhere to either! But they have no problem airing somebody else's laundry. I just feel sorry for Rudd in the sense that his privacy has been very badly violated. I hope he comes out of this exonerated and ok. I love AC/DC. I'd hate to see him go. It's simple 2/4 kicking it all the way, but Rudd does it so well.

I'd say not tough on the scale of some other countries. Marijuana and meth amphetamine are the drugs found if I remember correctly. Small amounts for personal use are also less of a problem than larger amounts (presumably for dealing). I am out of date on these matters because I retired from my Medical School work in illicit drug research twenty years ago and I don't really keep up. But I know the people who do.

It has been discussed and condemned by a number of people in the local media here. These tend to be the more thoughtful critics of the mainstream media's fascination and focus on anything which will sell more papers or get more eyeballs watching on the TV news. The way the police announced the "attempting to procure a murder" charge and then withdrew it was a serious embarrassment to the police as well.

They haven't been to court yet as far as I know and there aren't formal charges. The other drug charges will be reviewed by the prosecutor to see if they have a sufficiently strong case. In the "procuring a murder" charge that step seems to have been forgotten and the informal charge got out before the prosecutor gave it the green light and a formal charge was made. That seems to be the measure of whether the police prosecute (formally charge) or not. And that metric of "can we win it?" has gotten the police into even more hot water quite recently:

Of particular interest is that the perps boasted on social media sites that they had gotten underage girls drunk so they could rape them...yet somehow there wasn't enough evidence. There may even have been videos of their "conquests" but..not enough evidence. Not a good look. This context means the police will be extra careful over the Phil Rudd issue. Especially since they have already made us New Zealanders look bad in the world's media eyes.

Zen - If what you say is so, then Rudd stands an excellent chance in court of beating the drug charges. Without knowing the details, I would assume that the drugs were discovered when they searched his house. If the reason they were there was to arrest him for the murder conspiracy then the drug charges become (incidental) to the initial charge - which was dropped. If not for the false murder conspiracy charge, the police would never have had cause to go into his house looking for drugs. Ergo he can beat the drug bust by claiming that the police had no right to be in his house in the first place. I hope that made sense, I'm not sure if I'm expressing myself correctly, but you get the gist of what I'm saying. I think Rudd has a chance to walk on all charges.

Hope has the best lawyer money can buy...
