From njphil3

I've played the drums over 30 years, but it wasn't until I found a early sixties SS drum set at a yard sale a couple of years ago that I fell in love with vintage drums.....I came here by accident looking for info on my new vintage set and everyone was so very helpful...I received great cleaning and restoring advice as well as resale values.....I greatly appreciated the help and have been a daily viewer of this forum ever since.....Someday I hope to have the knowledge that most here have and will gladly pass on what I have learned......I can understand the frustration of people just stopping in to get a price, but I personally think there is no harm....especially since they are guided correctly in the preservation of vintage drums.....and frankly...I love to see the picsjust my opinion no disrespect intended

Me too... ask a question & hopefully get an answer (or two).. That's the main focus of this forum as I see it...

Cheers

John

Thanks so much for the positive replies :-)

Ok, so I'm confused now though...The vendor says the badge serial numbers of all the drums start 155...Now as far as I'm aware these are 1965 serial numbers, still Keystone badge era right? And the badges on this kit are B/O?. Hence my confusion!

There are no date stamps on the drums.

Can anyone help unravel this "mystery" please? :-)

You have to ask yourself, if they used butcher block on both countertops and drums, why didn't we see bowling ball pearl countertops? How cool would that have been for drummers?Walking

Serial numbers were reset (start from 0) in 1970 with the introduction of the black and silver badge

Thanks Joe. That link appears to be Slingerland though?

I got the 1965 serial number year from the same resource here:

http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/serial_numbers.html

Could they possibly be 1970 then, when number were 'out of sequence or unnumbered'?

Again looking at this link, I guess '78 & '79 are out of the question as different shells we in use by then?

The 65 badge should be Black and Brass. And if it were a 65 it should have a 1965 stamp in the bass drum.

No dates were stamped in the 70's

My grandma had a kitchen table that had a red pearl celluloid finish. They were around in the '50's and '60's I think.

I remember seeing old toilet seats that were wrapped in celluloid pearl. I think they'd take sheets of it and heat shrink it on.

Fender still calls celluloid pearl guitar picks "MoTo," for mother-of-toilet-seat.

I want a red agate pearl toilet seat.

I understand the Combo series was available in/up to 1978 with 3 ply shells & interior sprayed granitone...?

I am only referring to the Serial Number sequence being used around 1978... If you do yourself a search on Ebay "1978 Ludwig" then you will find several items.. (mostly Snares) with numbers close to your #155..... Presumably, that series of numbers was in use across the whole range of production in that period... Hope this helps.

Cheers
