67 white marine pearl downbeat on ebay Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Anyone else seen this? Looks fairly mint, claims all original, no yellowing that I can see, and he's got the 14" floor tom. Legs on bass are the disappearing versus folding. 3 pcs. only at 1500., local pickup only. I'm surprised there's no activity. I'd have linked it here, but can't figure out how!

Copy the link in the Explorer address bar when you are at the target object and paste it just below your text entry on this site. Seems to work fine.

I called the owner and talked to him last week. He's a very honest guy and probably the 2nd owner of the kit since he got it in the early 70's. The set sounds like a good deal. The only reason I didn't bid was that the floortom has a serial number about 20000 later than the other 2 drums. I assume the original buyer got the bass drum and small tom first. Maybe not. I didn't want to risk driving up to Chicago and finding out that they didn't 100% match. I'm about as picky as they come.

Especially w/ a 14" floor tom I do not think a 20,000 difference is a thing to question. 14's were more specialty than a typical 16" so numbers are often far off like this. I'm pretty picky as well & like #'s close together. Looks like a very nice kit,

A 20,000 digit spread would not surprise me at all. My 1967 WMP Downbeat ordered all together* on 4/4/67 has over a 30,000 digit spread in the 3 serial numbers for the 12x8 tom (#470107, 3/17/67), 16x16 tom (#500495, 2/14/67) & 20x14 bass (#501248, 2/14/67).

Note that the 3/17/67 SN on the 12x8 is 30k "lower" than the 2 drums dated earlier on 2/14/67 (Valentine's Day). I attribute this to too much green beer consumed over the lunch break in the middle of Chicago on St. Patrick's Day.

* = The 5x14 Supra snare was bought separaterly a few months earlier in January '67 (#365083, 7/15/66).

Outstanding bit of history and restoration! I've got to chime in on my 67 downbeat kit! As far as I know it's all original although I bought it from my drum teacher in 1972 - wish I'd asked more questions or knew more about the kit at that time. He sold it to me with a 70's 6.5 x 14 super sensitive, and added a second mounted tom which was a 70's bop 9 x 13. No extra holes - just used a second tom mount on the existing bass bar. He set me up to rock and roll although he was an old jazz guy. Anyone else know Len Scolletti from NJ? Anyway, serial #'s are 8 x 12: 500957, 14 x 14: 499964, 20" bass: 495681 Dates on mounted tom and floor only are both the same 02/8/67. Question: any explanation for the disappearing bass spurs on the ebay kit versus the std. folding on the downbeats?

I also communicated with the seller- seemed decent and honest, and not entirely knowledgeable about his kit. If the bass drum had had the folding spurs, I'd have bought them in a heartbeat. Beautiful kit, and I've got the snare to match (I think... you never know with Ludwig WMP ;)
