I have a Majestic Deluxe snare. I like to know when it was made.

Well the pics are gone but if I were to guess, mid 60's to early 70's.Majestic was made by Star/Hoshina in Japan before they became Tama. They were imported in large numbers,so they are pretty common ,especially in the US.

Some were made quite well usually with 3 ply shells of luan, with re- rings. With good heads and tuning, they also can sound pretty good.

Does the shell have reinforcement rings?

This was made by Star. It was 67-68 ish that both Star and Pearl made the transition from the thinner shells with re-rings to the thicker shells with no re-rings. This can help date your snare.

My guess would be after 1967-8 because it is quite well-known that the Majestic DELUXE models have the thicker shells (and the Semi-Pro had the thinner shells).

Star became Tama in 1974. I don't think Tama ever made Majestic drums, so it would be safe to say that your drum is somewhere between 67-74.

BTW - it appears that you have a problem with some heads not seated correctly, as the rims are not even. You probably are already aware of this (I hope so).

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

It needs a head. I was going to throw this out. but I thought I would do a little digging.

Throw it out???? Relax - we don't want anything getting hurt now!!!! (poor drum). In the world of MIJ - not as worth as much as American, but some people search for months/years to find the right color wrap/badge, etc.

Even after changing heads.....if you still are not happy with how it sounds, recut the edges. Just standard 45s would work fine. I did that with a Pearl made snare I had had for decades - and it came to life.

I have one like that - though not sure if mine is Pearl or Star.
