That is cool! I am going to Houston this summer but Lubbock is too far for me to swing by. Too bad because I would do it if it were closer.
My drums config is 2 up 2 down.
While probably not a popular VDF choice, the Tama kit is probably your best bet for flexibility.
As for double pedal vs double bass drum; it simply depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you have guys getting up to play a couple if songs or even 30 min, then taking out the time to set-up a double bass kit won't really be an option. If one band comes in, sound checks in the afternoon and then plays that night, then sure, they can play double bass, but I doubt that is what is happening at your venue.
To be fair, most of the pros are using double pedals these days with the general exception of the metal core, speed metal, death metal, progressive rock, etc. Plus, if you are mic'ing the kit that is one or two more inputs to deal with. Your engineer probably would not have accounted for that so he either has to move the entire mix down the board (a nightmare if you don't have digital desks) or he has kick drums on inputs 1, 2, 45, and 46. Of course, if you are not mic'ing then it doesn't matter.
I think I will set the 10-12-14-16-22 Tamas and a supra snare up at the JamHole. I have a DW 5000, and a Tama Iron cobra double pedals. Will probably use the DW since the Tama is still brand new in the box. I had a garage sale a few months back and sold my Pearl Icon rack with a bunch of clamps on it for $80. It made me sick after I decided I needed it. lol Lucky I tracked the guy down and he sold it back to me for $100. I was so glad I gave him a Sabian HHX 14" cymbal that had no mate, I had bought at a pawn shop for $20. The rack and clamps I have on the rack would cost over $600 to replace. I think the rack is the only way to go for that many toms, especially since it will never be moved. It takes up less room than all the stands and I dont like hanging toms!

poppy, your lucky to get the rack back,lol. Most guys would not have sold it back to you. Sounds like a real nice setup you have at the jam hole. If I ever get over that way I will be stopping in for sure!

Hi poppy; yep, I've been to Lubbock a few times. My dad had a childhood friend that lived there, and work sent me there once in the late eighties / early nineties. I've actually spent a few weeks total in Dallas / Ft. Worth / Arlington, and Beaumont / Port Arthur. Texas is a great place, I'd be there but I've got to much California in my head. lol
Not knocking the eastern states, but it always amuses me when folks from the east coast mention driving somewhere, a state or two away in a short time. From here, you can't go too far west without getting kind of wet. Going east will get you into a couple different states, depending whether you've gone north or south, within about five hours. That's to the border. South to Mexico or north to Oregon is about six hours driving. Texas is even bigger.
