Here's a photo of me with my new Rogers kit in 1968. Used all my pay from a summer job to buy them, though my dad did help me out a bit. I think it was around $600 for everything, including the non-Rogers stands, and Zildjian A's, maple Powertone, Rocket pedal. It was a 20-12-13-16 Londoner in Red Onyx.

I sold the kit a couple years later, but around 8-9 years ago I found the same kit with a 22" bass drum. It was at a GC, but it must have been a closet find since it was almost unused, original heads, etc.

Wayne very cool picture of your Dad and the Rogers that day!! Classic. Yes indeed these drums were expensive back in the day. My old Rogers kit was $300 used (with stands, cymbals and cases) and that was a good chunk of change back then. Really nice you have not only kept them but added to them all these years! Beautiful.

Thanks Glenn-it`s just kind of neat to really know the history of your vintage drumset. One thing i`m still not sure of is what model type would this set fall into? .Could it be a"Starlighter" with an extra tom and floor added in? Maybe this could be another thread, lol.

That is a fantastic story really fully expressed in a moment. Would to have loved to been talking to your Dad in the car on the drive home to your house before he revealed them to you. That's an awesome photo, Wayne. Thanks so much for putting it up for us.

One of 4 original receipts from 1966 through 1970 for my Supraphonic, WMP Downbeat, soft cases and later a 20" Zildzian ride and Rogers swan leg stand are attached. The other 3 are in my set on Flickr showing the set after I detailed it in 2012. My parents loaned me the money for the set in 8th grade and I repaid every penny in full with lawn mowing money and other summer jobs. I'm glad I hung on to all of it.

Cool name "The Drum Key".

Though the seller couldn't spell cymbal correctly :) Ha!

btreat-we both bought our kits in 1967 within a month of each other and we both still have them! What are the odds of that?Great that you also have your original sales receipt from that beautiful WMP Ludwig kit that you have and your other 3 receipts as well. And it looks like you have taken very good care of them all these yrs.Loved the paint resto you did on the 20" bass drum hoops,wow-they look brand new!I also have other receipts from 1968 and 69`as i added on to my Rogers set. Thanks for posting your receipts and pics-gorgeous set of Luddy`s!!
