I just picked up this Rogers Tower kit in a silver glass glitter finish and it came with a 6 lug Rogers gold glass glitter snare. The tom, kick and snare are Cleveland and the floor tom is Dayton. I'm not too familiar with the Tower series, although I do know they had the same shell construction, but was the 16 floor tom with the beavertail lugs common with these kits? In any case, I absolutely love Rogers silver glass glitter, they really look cool under stage lights.

I have the twin to this kit.

It's funny, when new the 14x14 Tower floor toms cost less then the 16x16 Holiday floor toms. Now the 14x14's are getting more than the 16x16's. A "Sparkling Red Pearl" 14x14 just sold on ebay for $372 and it only included the shell, lugs, badge and vent grommet.

I'm still working on my kit. Whew, there's a lot of hardware to clean on these Rogers kits. CryBaby

The devil is always in the details. Rogers called all of these finishes "pearl" Sparkling Blue PearlSparkling Silver PearlWine Red Ripple Pearl ETC> The sparkles were a glass glitter during this era. They did have tiny bits of glass in the finish. Later sparkle finishes were made differently. to quote...Bruce Longroll FelterHard to capture...... orange peel

Yeah, I know that...but we all do. Drummers always called them red sparkle...calling this stuff "glitter" and "glass glitter" just seems to imply that there was some sort of choice and this was the premium. It just seems so "affected." Rant over. I got tons of 'em.

Many times the bass-tom-snare Comet kit was a first set for a young person. After a while, the 16" floor tom was added, often from dealer stock because it was wanted 'right now' and that's what the dealer had. But sometimes, a 16" was ordered because the buyer did not want a 14" tom. Young people, in the 60's, playing rock-n-roll, did not want that 'baby' floor tom. And the Tower was not available in a 16", only 14" or 15".

This might explain why some Holiday kits have a 16x16 floor tom with a higher S/N than the tom tom and bass drums. Maybe even a different interior shell finish; flat gray vs. gray/white speckle. It's just a theory.
"Oh you want the Comet Kit, but with a 16x16 floor tom too. Let me see what we have in the back."

"You're in luck. We had a spare floor tom. I hope your kid has a great Christmas."

Well, good news, they are not a rewrap! Everything seems to be original and the kit is pretty clean.

Looks like a nice kit.

That snare does indeed look like faded gold sparkle.
