What Song and Drummer Inspires You? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

I love it when old threads resurface! I'm not sure how I missed this one when it started!

Anyway, one I didn't see mentioned but had a HUGE impact on my "drumming" life was Iron Butterfly's Ron Buchy's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" drum solo on their 1968 album.

I also spent the afternoon yesterday (working on computers at work) listening to Chicago's Greatest Hits... Danny Seraphim (sp?) always inspired me, as the first "real" band (non-"gararge" band variety) I played in was a 9-pc "Chicago" style of band.

Sorry, no you-tube clips, but I'm sure they're out there...

I didn't see anyone mention Aynsley Dunbar. His work with Journey

(Pre Steve Perry) amazes me. The stuff on the first CD in particular, Kohoutek, Of A LifeTime...

Before Todd Sucherman was in Styx he played in FALLING WALLENDAS, especially the stuff on "Belittle".

I think their stuff might be out of print but it's worth looking for.

I know there's more snares than that.

From SlingerLynn

As I stated in my previous post here, I'm a BIG fan of Matt Abts. It took me a while to figure this one out too. I've been listening to Gov't Mule for years and still can't duplicate some of Matt's grooves. Anyway, I'll try to show where he drops the kick in below.1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & a 4 e & aHe also drops the kick in on the 1-e and the 1-& throughout. My band has been working on Thorazine Shuffle lately...I've almost got it.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4s4hW-oGZ0Lynn

John!

There really was nothing wrong with your starting that particular thread by the way.. but .. when it takes the fork in the road, well... you know! The difference here for example: 8 pages and not one comment taking exception with someone else's opinion on what is good and what inspires them! Thus, is has remained in place. BEST!
