From Purdie Shuffle

Our third hit in two weeks is due Saturday. We may be 'snow-wimps' compared to Canadians, but at least our women get to wear skimpy summer outfits for more of the year than up by you! You guys have to spend most of the year looking at this:x-mas2John

John that`s hilarious but where did you get this pic of my Aunt Velma selling cigs of all things? We haven`t seen her in years.Cold enough up here to freeze "the ***** off a brass monkey"!!!

Looks like Spring time compared to the snow belt we live in.At least you guys can see your cars and not take your life into your own hands just trying to back out of your own lane way.The shovelled snow banks are 7 feet tall up here by the road.Guess we`re all in this together-Comon`Spring !!!

Talk about an extreme contrast... just received the horrible news that a family friend has lost the lot in the Victorian fires yesterday.. house.. all possessions and sadly his two long time canine companions.. Can't yet make contact with him but what a difficult set of circumstances to try and cope with..

A very nice gent who shared Christmas with us at our house and a "Collector" of trivia , antiques & artifacts.. all gone..

Hope he's OK.

longjohn - Are the brush-fires close to heavily populated areas? Very sorry to hear about your friend. I hope he's alright. 'Things' can be replaced, people can't.

Purdie,

Mainly semi rural areas on the outskirts of Melbourne and more problems in SA.. medium to low population... our fire fighters have been working their butts off for weeks... but mother nature has had the upper hand... latest reports are that the situation is improving... however around 50 homes gone and 100's damaged... TBC..

Cheers

Tragic for all family's involved. Large portions of our respective countries going up in flames every summer is becoming a common occurrence. Past summer huge parts of our western US was on fire.

My son is a fire-fighter in NYC. He was involved in a bad motorcycle accident a couple of years ago so now he's a desk-jockey. With all that's going on, I'd rather have him safe behind a desk than running into burning buildings. Although I'm sure he'd beg to differ. I've learned to have a very deep respect for first responders. God bless all those guys that put themselves in harms way. I'll keep a good thought for your mate! Hope he turns up soon. Please keep us posted.

The snow is coming down sideways now!! My wife's friend is supposed to fly into Charlotte tonight but I am not sure if we can make it on account of the weather. It's getting not so nice out there so I hope everyone stays safe. Also a lot of folks are without power.

Times like these its always good to double check the emergency supplies. Things to eat, drink, stay warm and so forth.
