1980 Ludwig B/O Badge Kit Questions

Sorry about the poor quality pic as it was taken in 1982 and no interior pics.This kit is from the big hair/spandex era and sizes are (2) 22" bass drums,13,14,15,16 toms & 18" ft- deep powertoms in red cortex,6.5x 14 black beauty snare. I think they are 6 ply maple and no re-rings.I bought it from a friend in 1982 so i`m the second owner and they`re in excellent condition..As you can see i`m a lefty thus the badges on the player side.My questions are:

1- What model are they-Super Classics maybe ?

2- Anyone ever seen a twin bass drum connector post like this one?

3- Ball park value figure? I know it`s tough without better pics.

The bass drums would have been virgin if not for the connecting post-they`re as solid as the Rock of Gibralter,but abit of overkill with that hardware piece. Any advice here from the Luddy experts would be greatly appreciated.With thanks .

They would be the Ludwig modular series. They were only made for a couple of years. Does the post have three holes? If so, that is the mount that came with the modular series. The third hole could hold a cymbal post or (and I have seen this) another post to stack more toms.

The modular weren't very popular. I just picked one up similar to yours for $450 but I got a deal. I would guess a value of $800+/-

Bondo,thanks very much for your info. on this kit.WOW-you got one heck of a great deal on yours for $450.My friend paid about $5k for this kit back in the day up here in Canada and i got them from him for $1,600.I know the Black Beauty snare is worth more than the whole set.Yes the posts have three holes,but it`s the bass drum connecting rod that i was most curious about.It has a rachet style center for angling the kicks.Wonder if the Modular Series will go up in value someday, seeing as they were only made for a couple of yrs?Thanks again for your reply Bondo.

Bondo, i can`t believe these drums are going for such low prices.What a beautiful kit your blue cortex is and it came with the 6 1/2" Supra ya` boot! Now that`s a great deal!!! Still in question is my dbl bass connector post? Was this a special order or was it factory with this type of kit?

Very nice set. I love all 3 sets of my 6-ply Luddies... also, they're maple & poplar...

latz,thanks for your info on the bass drum connector as i thought it was factory but wasn`t sure.Also didn`t realize they were maple and poplar.Guess the modular series never really took off for Ludwig thus the low prices these kits are getting and they are tremendous sounding drums.

BEST DRUMS FROM THE HEAVY METAL ERA!!!! Nowadays you can still find drummers who favor the power sizes! (Nicko from Iron Maiden for example). They record like a dream, sound amazing with ambassadors AND Pinstripes and they look awesome! Besides the 13x14 tom cab double as a floor tom! hahahah......Yeah, the connector bar through the bass drums is factory

Wayne - My experience has been that power-tom set-ups are a tough sell. I hope you don't have to wait long, but the power-tom kits I have purchased and sold took a long time to sell. As long as you're willing to be patient and persistent, you'll find your buyer. Might take a little while is all I'm saying.

Best of luck whatever you decide to do.
