One of my dear friends from this site sent me an email 2 days ago with a link showing a nice camco on maxwells site, priced right at $1400. Oaklawn, natural wood. so I contacted Steve and made an appt to go see the set this weekend. 2 hours later he sends me a response saying it sold on line to someone over seas. what is it with these kits? this is crazy. maybe I should sell everything and pay market price on one camco kit and be done with it. >LOL

sorry about the camco kit, but the over seas people are buying and reselling for 2x what they are paying here and the euro dollar is worth a lot more than the us buck so right off the bat they are ahead, keep looking another will show up it just when your our age the one we are wanting mite take its time come around again LOL...

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
The only way you might have held it was by offering Maxwell's an 'earnest money' deposit on the kit. Say half. With final payment on approval. It's kind of a 'back-door lay-a-way'. You'd lose 10% or better if you backed out, but at least if the kit was a good one, you'd have it now. If the same situation should arise, the right kit shows up, you can't get there right away, but you know you'll buy it if it's good, then wave some $ in their face. Worst case scenario, you walk and you're out $50.
Sorry you missed out on it. Believe me, I know how that feels.

Sorry to read you missed out on this Oaklawn set.
I guess I'm on of the overseas Camco enthusiasts.
I saw the ad and must agree that the price was more than fair.
Jaghog is correct about the Euro-Dollar thing but I'm sure not all of us are bying Camcos to flip them. LA area drums can be found but Oaklawns were never imported into Europe. I can sense that the love for Camco drums is growing over here. Add to that the available channels to find them these days over the internet and relatively pain-free shipping and import-procedures.
I have noticed the same even with Slingerland kits lately. Seems you can't find a decent vintage kit for under $1,000 anymore. Maybe the market is making an uptick.

Just few days back, someone here was sharing a 50s RADIO KING set for less than 600. The kit needed some cosmetic restorations and snare had couple extra holes,, but maan...
