Ludwig Super Classic with a 20" Bass?

Loading...

Hey guys, I'm looking to (finally) get into vintage drums. I've come across a kit locally that is being advertised as a 60's ludwig kit in the 13/16/20 configuration. The serial numbers are all in the 2619xx range. I guess it needs some cleanup but nothing is missing.

Do you guys think these are Super Classic toms pieced with a Club Date or Downbeat kick? Also I'm curious if the asking price of $950 is reasonable given that a snare drum is not included and it might need some work.

Picture attached.

My Camco's are 13, 16, 20. I LOVE the configuration myself. But Camco shells could be bought however.

I haven't seen anything like this before with Ludwig though...

Could have been ordered that way. I would ask for a photo of them all stacked to see if the fade is even on all....get a picture of the badges as well to see if they have been altered. If all checks out, I think the asking price is fair. It is a downbeat bass btw.

It's a Superclassic. I had the same ss kit & another member pointed out the following when I had a ? @ the 20" BD:

Actually, it wouldn't have been a custom order. The Superclassic with a 22 was number 980p. The 20 bass version was number 987p. It's a standard cat kit."

Difficult to tell from the photo if $950 is reasonable. Go visit the kit & make an offer based on wrap & hardware condition - but do not let anyone here know what town you live in or else they'll be thankful for the tip & beat you to it (if they haven't already).

It very well could be "factory" but it's not "catalog"

The most common catalog configurations:

Downbeat:

8x12"

14x14"

14x20"

Super classic:

9x13"

16x16"

14x22"

Hollywood:

8x12"

9x13"

16x16"

14x22"

And clubdate are the introductory sets that had just the single lug drums usually in the downbeat configuration

The thing with Ludwig is nothing is standard.

I like Drums...
1963 Ludwig Downbeat Champagne Sparkle
1964 Leedy (Slingerland) Blue n Silver Duco
1964 Ludwig Club Date Sparkling Silver Pearl
1966 Ludwig Super Classic Sparkling Silver Pearl
1968 Gretsch round badge modern jazz orange stain
1972 Slingerland 85N Pop outfit Light Blue Pearl
1976 Ludwig Vistalite clear
1981 Gretsch SSB Gran Prix Rosewood
1987 Yamaha Turbo Tour Custom Mellow Yellow
1991 Pearl Export Ferrari Red

Good deal on a legit set. Not a giveaway, but a reasonable price. I like 20" basses, tho. YMMV.

So, did you get the kit & what shape is it in? I shipped my kit to Switzerland last summer. It had little fade & after Simichroming everything, using T-CUT (car paint brightener; think it brightened the wrap some) & repainting the hoops it was smoking.
