B/O Badge Ludwig Concert Tom Questions

Loading...

Hi Guys,

I have a few questions i like to ask about these b/o badge Ludwig concert toms.A friend picked these up and would like to sell them but knows very little about the drums. There are eight in black cortex wrap and sizes are-6,8,10,12,13,14,15,16.The 6,8,10,12 have rounded corner badges and the 13,14,15,16 are the pointy badge and all are in very good condition. They come with four b/o sticker stands. My questions are:

Rough manufacture year of pointy vs. round?

Only two have metal rings around the bottom-is this factory made?

Are there much demand for these anymore?

Ballpark price range ?

Thanks very much for your time on this guys,i`d really appreciate any info you can supply.

Wayne

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

The rounded badges indicate 6-ply "thicker" shells without re-rings, although the pointed badges did crossover into 6-ply territory. Based on both the badges and shells, the toms came from a few years apart. The pointed badge 3-ply shells (without the metal trim) would be no newer than maybe 1977, and the rounded badges no older than 1979 or 80.

The toms will sound quite different from each other, and collectors will stay away unless they happen to need four of one or the other.

Despite my best efforts in forums and via www.concerttoms.com, there's not much appreciation or demand for them these days.

Hard to say what the value is, you'd need to find someone who specifically needs either the 4 smaller, or 4 larger drums. I don't think they possess as much value as a whole set.

Could be anywhere from $250-500 for everything as-is.

Good luck,

I agree that there isn't a huge demand for concert toms but here in Canada vintage drum prices along with the price of everything else are higher than they are in the US. I think you could get $600-$700 for them.

Remember, it's a mis-matched set, and one drum is missing its metal trim. And if the buyer isn't that particular, he's probably also going to think $6-700 is pretty high.

Unfortunately, there are a few strikes against these drums. If they were all 3-ply clear maple, they'd have a better shot. In good shape they could fetch $600 or more from the right buyer. Heck, I recently bought 8 concert toms, no stands, for $500, and I'm a cheap SOB! But, they all matched, and that's the key.
