How many kits is too many? Last viewed: 5 hours ago

In the pass two months I have acquired 5 kits, a Slingerland kit. a WFL kit, two Rogers kits and a Gretsch kit. I have three bedrooms in my house filled from floor to ceiling, and two 12x12' climate controlled rooms filled from floor to ceiling. No end in sight.

I like to hear stuff like this, it makes me feel normal. I have 13 full kits now and I feel like that is ridiculous. But the more I talk to people the more I find that I am not the only one with several kits. So I guess its what ever you want, who cares if you have 10 or 20 kits, you are happy and thats all that matters.

Thank you!

I'm not sure why it's even a question! Some guys collect coins, or cars, we happen to collect drums because we are drummers. Nothing 'strange' going on at all. If you have the cake to collect 100 kits, God bless you. But I don't see it as 'hoarding' or any kind of psychological problem requiring attention.

The problem lies in -guilt.- If you're feeling -guilty- about your purchases, then the source of that feeling is something you need to investigate and evaluate for yourself. But there's nothing 'wrong' with it unless it somehow impedes your ability to function normally. It hasn't for me.

Obviously this is a question that can only be answered in each one's family context.

With all due respect to Mikey, I find it very difficult that he has 500 kits. I know of someone who has 170 and has the 2nd largest collection in the country. I would find it hard to believe that the one with the biggest collection has 3 times that of the next largest.

If I had 500, I would be very careful about identifying myself. The next thing that could happen is becoming a target for theft. But then again - the most dangerous question and personal information to be revealed is how many cymbals one owns - worth alot more money per pound!

Perhaps the 500 was a "guestimate". Either way - no attack on Mickey - just hard to believe, that's all.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

It's like when guys tell fishing stories... the fish was really this big [-] but when the story gets told, the fish ends up this big! [------------------------]

lol - no harm, no foul... just a 'fish' story is all. 'Human nature' in a way.

I want to camp out in Purdie's basement!!

I have three sets currently.. well, four if you count my kiddo's small sound percussion set...

An early 70s red sparkle Ludwig, a 40s era mixed MIJ/Ludwig/Leedy in WMP, and an early/mid 70s clear Vistalite... I own 6 snares, and a few cymbals... a very modest collection considering some of you other fellas!! But, it is what i can afford and fit in my small 1500 sq foot home, with a family of four, two german shepherds and two cats... I really should sell the vistalite but havent talked myself into it yet. I just dont ever play it... ever. Bought it to sell it, but I havent had the heart yet... keep telling myself to hold on and play it some..

I have a decent sized two car garage that I hope to convert half into a climate controlled drum/music room pretty soon. Gotta sell the motorcycle first, and use that money to sink into the music room construction.

My wife says anything more than 2 is too many....one for practice at home, one for gigging.

So I make it a practice not to ask her questions like that.
