old beat up snare - help ID Last viewed: 9 hours ago

Loading...

Hi ya'll. Recently acquired my Star kit which I am in the s-l-o-w process of renovating. With it was a tired and beat up snare drum. It had suffered water damage and the shell is shot. Hardware looks okay (casings especially).

While perusing ebay this morning I saw a vintage Kent snare with a strainer that looked just like what is on this snare I have. Wondering if this snare of mine was a Kent? Any opinions would be helpful. No ID of any sort on this drum.

I may keep the hardware and look for a decent shell and rebuild. But probably not soon, and maybe never. Just mainly curious.

Thanks in advance.

Are you looking for a MIJ red sparkle snare shell? I have a Polaris badge snare shell. It has lugs on it also if you need them.

Hi Gerald! I am not sure but would like to see a pic if you have one.

I'd sort of like a Kent shell but I've not seen one. Are they good shells?

If 'made in USA' (upstate New York) then, good shells/usually with crappy bearing edges. If you find a Kent shell from the made in USA era, check the bearing edges. If the edges are good, it'll be a good drum.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

I 2nd what John said.

Kent USA made pretty cool stuff. Kent MIJ was just standard MIJ stuff.
