I had a 67 model that I sold recently. it had 20 strand 2517124 resin tip wires on it. usually see those or the 2517124 12 strands on there.

I'm thinking maybe I know why I did NOT like the Puresound wires I bought, if you need the drum cranked up. My snares are med-low tuning and med. tightness. Pearl snares have always worked out for me. Even Gibraltar generics are OK-

I'd still like to find out when this drum was produced; it's got a rounded badge and a serial number that begins with 222, which isn't listed anywhere (in fact, the serial numbers only go up to xxxxxxx - 2013537 which is 1979). It's not the powder coated version either. If I had to guess I would think sometime between 1980-1984 since they started the battleship grey paint then. If anyone thinks they know, it would be cool to find out :)

Don't know about b/o serial numbers, but I think pointy badges ended in '78 & powder coating started n '84. does that narrow it down any? Around this time, I think they started switching from black face to chrome face P85's, but all this overlapped for a while.........marko

I would think 222XXXX BLUE/OLIVE BADGE would be shortly after 1982 but before 1984....maybe.

FOR ME I am searching for documented OEM part number for the wires on an Acrolite from 1980-1982 so I can at least buy wires that are very close to originals if the part isn't available. Mine is a mint condition keeper I likely wont play. If I were to use it I would definitely try both the pure sound blaster and the pure sound custom. The Custom sounds awesome on my mapex black panther 13" brass but may be a little dull on the acrolite but definitely worth trying and you need the custom series on hand anyways for future experiments. They are awesome on some drums.

I've just switched the original Ludwig ( they look to be chrome plated) wires on my b/ o Acrolite to some very nice Canopus ( chrome plated) vintage wires. I'm going to be using it tonight for a rock gig, straight away there is a massive improvement, I liked the Ludwigs but they were starting to rattle a bit. These Canopus sound amazing. By the way isn't an Acrolite a very nice sounding drum?! I think they sound very good.

Almost woody sounding.Jump For Joy I've tuned mine on the med to quite high as we are playing all songs by the police , tonight I have to be Stewart Copland, it's great stuff to play and quite taxing! On all my wood snares I use dryer wires.

I actually dig exactly what you have on the drum now. I wish I had more of those 12 strand plastic ended Ludwig wires. I have them on my 67 Acro and it sounds awesome. Perfect pop with no unwanted rattle. Sounds better to my ears then my COB supra or Luddalloy supra. Or any of my metal snares for that matter. I did have a b/o badge acro that was pretty mint and no matter what wires/heads/tuning I went with it just didn't sound great like my 67. I could get it to sound good but not great.
