Hi, Folks

Thought I'd share a photo or two of a recent acquisition. It's a 1935 Slingerland Broadcaster finished in original "Full Dress" Sparkling Silver Sparkle. Not a lot of these produced, as Slingerland only made these for about a year. Because Gretsch had been using the name "Broadkaster" since 1928, they were urged to drop the name.

This drum has an incredible solid maple shell. The reason for the lack of a cloud badge is that all Full Dress snare drums were made without them. Only bass drums received a badge.

That is real pretty.

The more I look at "other" vintage drums the more I realize I am doomed. Just simply doomed. How could anyone not be tempted by such beauty.

Awesome beautiful drum. I love the engraved hoops. Do you think the snare wires are original. I'm not trying to be critical I'm just interested to know.

Definitely not original wires. The top hoop is actually hand engraved. That was also done on the early Radio Kings. By 1937-38, the logo was stamped into the brass hoops.

That is one BEAUTIFUL snare drum! Do you plan to fit it with proper wires? That would certainly be the icing on the cake!

If I can locate the correct wires, I will. Because so many of the snare drums I find have either broken or missing snare wires, I never seem to have enough of them.

How many do you have or had go thru your hands?

I will try and post pics of mine today that I discovered was a Full Dress one under the 2 or 3 coats of paint that someone glopped on!

I didn't even know it was a FD until a friend stripped all the paint off the other week,and you can see the 4 very small tack holes in a diamond pattern in between each lug!Cryin shame,I tell ya!

It was just the shell with 8 lugs when I got it....too bad the rims,strainer and butt were missing too...

I'd like to see that, Blair. What a shame.

I have only had 4 or 5 full dress drums pass through my hands. This is a first as far as Broadcaster FD drums, though.
