Fair price for a 70's Black Beauty? Last viewed: 18 seconds ago

Hello,

I'm trying to figure a fair market price for a 6.5" 70's BB. The drum is in good condition with original parts. You don't see too many of these around.

I have a 70's converted BB SS that I'm thinking of letting go of in order to help pay for this one.

Thanks.

Thanks Wayne, but I don't have any photos yet. I'm just looking for a ball park value. It is definitely as I described though. Some plating loss but thats par... I know they were way up there in price last year but I'm guessing the market might have fallen since then. There are no recent sales to gage off of. I did come across a 6.5" Super Sensitive that sold for $1500 recently but that doesn't really help. I've done a web search and I can't find a dang thing! Not the end of the world, I guess I've kind of made up my mind as to what to do...

Thanks.

It`s a tough call without pics.I have a 79/80 blue/olive badge BB and they go for $1,800.-$2,500. range depending on condition.I would think yours would fall in this price range as well.As you know the BB`s are one of the best snares on the planet.Hope others will chime in for you as some will have much better knowledge on this fantastic legendary snare.

Holy smokes that's a lot of doe. Have you considered buying a new one? You can get a 6.5 BB for around $800 and it would have zero plating loss.

Bill Maley knows the answer to this.

I do know that at one point, they were selling for upwards or 3k.

I also heard that there's a market for them in Japan. Young rock n rollers want them over there.

If in great condition, I think around $2200 would be the tops.

$1750 is around the fair price on those drums.

The Super Sensitives will always be a little lower. Unless they're transition badge, then we're not talking BB.

Hope this helps.

Very true Cam and a good point made here, but the new ones don`t have 38 yrs. of funk in them.Don`t think BB`s of the 70`s time period were made for very long and when they were... they were in sporadic time spreads of production, thus the price difference and badges seem to be everything in these price ranges.

From what I've heard, the 70's BB's were Bronze shelled. Definitely a different sound compared to the brass models, which I think makes them more desireable.

I have never heard this. I think the sole reason for the steep price is JHB. $00.02

John Bonham never used a BB, or even a COB. He liked the drier sound of the 402.
