I recently purchased this kit on eBay... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Slingerland-Spirit-Series-Taiwann-1994-Build-It-Drum-Shell-Pack-Hardware-/171100516756?ssPageName=ADME%3AX%3ARTQ%3AUS%3A1123&nma=true&si=hWSiT%252F5GK%252Fyii2TGLbr%252BnKPXHFk%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 and it arrived today. For the price, I thought it would make a nice project kit. The seller advertised it as the Spirit series, which would have meant all mahogany shells. I just opened the box and inspected all the shells. What I discovered is that the shells are from the Artist Custom Series, 5-ply, with maple interior/exterior and 3 middle mahogany plies. Cool! The Slingerland Book says the Artist Custom was "made offshore, but with American wood", maple and mahogany.
So, I think I did pretty good. All shells are in VG condition and I just need to wrap them. Oh boy... another drum project!
