Hey there, I would say 69/70 for sure- Pearl is known for having used various old stock hardware and sometimes mismatching things - different catalog pictures than drums sold in the same year during this early period. The badges are the 69/70 era badges (but in Japan they used these badges until 75 for Valencia), as is that groovy wrap- if you get much later than 72/73 then you start to see most Valencia's in solid colors like metal blue, metal gold and metal silver - not these great tiger stripes. The tom holder is actually what looks to be a 68- so I would say 69/71. I have two sets of Valencias from that same period

Osakabop..

Your using fiberskyn's on the toms/snare..

what about the bass..?

I did have a late 60s Bolero kit that I had a eq4 on and man did it go boom.

Nothing inside to dampen..

Should I tongue oil the interiors or stain for better sound..?

Usually mount my rack tom separately and have a set of (new Pearl rubbers for the flr tom feet)..

So, that inside the shell bass drum photo tells us it's not pre-68 - it doesn't have the central reinforcement ring they used to use- it has a thicker shell of the later 60s/early 70's - That tom holder is also not the 67 model but a more modern version- post 68 I would say again. All the hardware like the snare throw-off and lugs, badges tells us we are right on target 69-71.

Great heads will make these drums a perfect practice room kit- REMO Fiberskyn 3 FAs or Aquarian Modern Vintage are my choices on MIJ drums and any pre-muffled bass drum head brings out some low end on these soft-wood drums. These kind of drums are going to sound warm no matter what you do so good, thick heads like these I mention just go with that and accentuate their character.
