Does anyone know if this was an after market thing, or if Ludwig actually did a small run of rare supraphonics, wrapped in a wood veneer. I have one, and I want to know more about it.

Definitely an attempt to cover up a peeling chrome finish. Some Supraphonics can get very ugly as they age. (It's best to live w/ aged look, & leave it alone. I really don't mind a seriously degraded finish). You might think about removing the "wood" look.

Also remove the hoops see if the last ply of wood has the wrap partially inside..

ah, ok. that's what I thought. I had it on ebay, then someone wrote me and said "hey that's a really rare piece, you should look it up before it sells, so no one takes advantage of you." and now I wish I wold have just left it up on ebay.
