What I did on my summer vacation Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Last week, I went to visit my aunt and uncle in Virginia. After the visit, we drove a couple of hours to the Ludwig factory in Monroe, North Carolina. My family and I got a private tour of the factory. Wade Carpenter from Ludwig gave us the tour. He said that 100% of the drums go through inspection before they leave the factory. We to see the molds where the drums have been made for over 60 years. That means that my drums came from those molds. Cool. There are only 40 people that work there. It's amazing to think all of those drums are made by only 40 people! I got to play on a new olive burst Legacy set in the showroom. It was super cool. They gave me a set of sticks and a keystone badge to bring home. It was something I'll remember forever.

Cool! I'm so jealous, I'm 64 and I've been playing Ludwig drums for 50 years... I never got to take the tour! You are one lucky young lady and I'm sure you had a blast seeing the factory. How did you like the sound of that Legacy kit?

BTW - You have a really great dad... I hope you can appreciate all the love he showers on you. My 'little girl' just turned 40! But there's just something very special about the relationship between a daughter and her dad that lasts a life-time.

Thanks for sharing the story and the photo.

i'm only 60 miles from Monroe. as much as I love Ludwig drums and all the history and heritage that comes with them, ive never made it to the plant..why? I haven't a clue. if you ever make it down this way, we'll have to make it happen.

LOL - That's ok, Mike. I was born and raised in Manhattan and even though I'd see it almost every day of my life, I never once went to the Statue of LIberty, or to the top of the Empire State Building! I went to the Top of the Trade Center when it was still up, but never to any of the places that people come from all over the world to see. My ex-wife took the kids when they were small, but I was working, I never got to go myself.

Yes, I've been wanting to take a run down to you. If we ever do it, we'll have to put the Ludwig factory tour on the agenda for sure!

Wow,I don't know how I missed this thread.

Congrats young lady on your tour, and I'm happy you held on your luddies.

John,I confess to have been to all of those places, but all in the line of duty.I've seen lots of cool places but one of the best was the gem and fossil bone room in the Museum of Natural History.

The Statue or as it's known to New Yorkers as "the broad in the bay"is a pretty cool site to see,as is the Empire State building, lit up at night.

Sorry to hijack the thread young lady, but is you ever make it to NYC,it's worth the trip to the "Big Apple".
