Buddy Rich Autographed Dollar Bill Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I finally found it!! After being MIA for over a year, I found my BR autographed dollar bill! As is always the case, I found it while I wasn't even looking for it. Isn't that the way it always is? I always kept the dollar in the same location, but it turns out I put it in a more logical place... except I forgot what that logical place was! The bill will now be placed in a frame that my girlfriend has had for sometime, in anticipation that I would someday find the bill!

It was a wonderful summer night at Disneyland, 1977, and I was listening and watching Buddy's command of the drums. During the next break, I mustered up the nerve and approached Buddy for an autograph. Buddy was very gracious and took the dollar from my shaking hand! I immediately noticed that he was going to autograph it with the bill upside down. There was no way I was going to ask Buddy to put it right-side up! I'll never forget that night and am so glad I got his signature! Thanks Buddy!

A real treasure...hang on to it. And wow, do I remember those "date nights" at Disneyland when they used to have big bands in the pavilion! Back then I could afford to pay the admission to the park for me and my date, maybe a coke and that was about it. Just went there to listen and dance to the big band.

Mark!

That is GREAT!... I love it! The fact that you still have it and in such excellent condition is just remarkable! I also got BR's autograph, and it was back in 1973...

... I had gone backstage during the band's break between sets... and everybody had disappeared. Now just WHERE could a 17 piece big band disappear to that quickly? I was but 17 at the time and hadn't quite figured out a lot of things... yet. Anyway... I went to Buddy's dressing room and got an audience with him one on one. ( an interesting/comical story for sure!... but for another time ) I asked for his autograph and he said sure, whaddya got for me to sign? Hmmmm... I hadn't thought about THAT! I took from my wallet a small piece of paper and handed it to him. He signed it, and I was a happy guy! Problem was, being only 17.. ( what did I know?! ) .. I kept that autograph in my wallet for YEARS and would produce it to show people and look at it from time to time, until.. eventually.. it literally.. disintegrated. What a MORON!... and I mean me here of course. SIGH. It wasn't until decades later that I managed to procure another autograph of Buddy's, only this time on a blue ink/Ludwig coated med. weight snare batter... and he signed that upside down too! Still... a fine keepsake, and I have it on the wall/framed.

GREAT piece Mark!

Tommy - You went and mentioned it! Now you have to take a shot of the drum head for us so we can check it out!

What a great (appropriate, it's on a drum head!) memento/keepsake to have. Especially for one of Buddy's biggest fans.

Cool! Now post a photo for the rest of us peons who don't have one, please!

I have a drum head signed by Ginger Baker. He used some type of felt pen. It's now so faded you can hardly see it. :)
