I will not trade or sell my Superstars, and as far as the cut-down job, now they are a practical gigging set. Mine were concert toms, but I converted them to double-heads. Superstars were the top of Tama's line, and Japanese or not are pretty amazing drums. Every time I have bought new drums I've been disappointed. Is there a place you can actually PLAY a "boutique"set like you are describing?
I've only heard C&C drums live and on Memphis Drum Shop's site, but am really impressed.
Regarding my Sup's, last night I jammed with some guys and used them and I always forget how awesome they sound. The toms have Aquarian TC's on top and Remo coated amb's on bottoms, and I can get such a range out of them between 70s rock and the 70s Cobham sound, to more contemporary tones. I wouldn't mind having concert toms to switch out once in a while. I'd also like a 10" and 14", but since I only use my 13" and 16" currently, it would be a waste. I even wish I had power toms and my cut-down toms, just to have all possible options!
As far as my Ludwigs, I really think I'd regret parting with them. In fact every time I gig with them I wonder why I even have a second kit! Sadly, I'm just a guy with a limited drum budget that wants a 3rd kit, and I'm extra-impressed with what C&C has going on.
Thanks to all who replied for talking sense into me, and please excuse my typo of BOY when I clearly meant BOP (blue oyster pearl). Happy drumming!
