Here is my latest addition. A WWII 1943-44 Ludwig & Ludwig Victory marching snare drum. You gotta love the wood lugs, strainer and hoops. It measures 10" X 14". I had the top head off just to check it out. It was refinished at some point, it's wasn't a great job, but it still looks amazing. I'll have to think about this one a little bit, but I'll probably strip it and just clear it to show all the natural wood. I also landed an original 43-44 Ludwig & Ludwig catalog to go with it. I'll post that when I receive it. Your thoughts?

Cool old drum. Lot of history and character. Looks neat. I wouldn't strip it. I would just clean it up and give it a good polish.

I appreciate your input. I might be able to clean it up as is. There are some slight runs in the finish, any suggestions on how to get them out without damaging the wood?

I received the catalog today, photos coming tomorrow. The catalog is mentioned in The Ludwig Book by Rob Cook, but there is no photo. I have never seen this catalog before.

Very nice. Actually, that is not a catalog but most likely either a brochure or a an addition to the regular blue/green and brown 48 page 1940-41 catalog. Looking forward to seeing photos!

I'm not sure, but it is 12 pages and the dates are 1944. It is the same size as the 40-41 catalogs, I have those as well. It covers every instrument, sticks, bells, etc... I like the fact that the Top Hat and Cane logo is still on the front for 1944. I will have pic's up tonight.

Fine WW2 snare and major score on that catalog. I'm jealous...still haven't found any info, if there was any, for the Rogers NJ drums of that era. Sometimes the drums surface first to me-then the old paper to let me know what to call it. Found what I believe to be the 5th known example of a Rogers WW2 snare drum this week. It needed hoops but was complete no extra holes great shell/edges- aside from the outside creative art in red. Minimal claw hooks all there. Lugs Pollack-ed out speckled in red too. The name "Russell" is inside the drum faint/olde. Cook book has a Jay Russell there in Farningdale NJ as a machinist from 1943-45. Def. not a painter! lol Could be...Congrats on that olde paper catalog!
