Went to take a look at Bob Grauso's drum sets at his widows house. The red Fibes set in the picture was the set going to their grandson. Small bop sizes16/14/10 made at the Texas plant. The picture of Buddy/Bob and Gene was a blown up picture in the garage that was about 4'x4'. Was able to talk to one of Bob's lifelong friends Rick who worked at Fibes factory in NY and PA until he left in 1979. The picture of the WMP set was the one she was selling, it sounded like this set was Bob's tribute to his idol Buddy. I would say they were built in the 70's since his wife told me he left the company in 1977. They were 6ply with Fibes hardware built as a one off at the factory. They looked to be lightly used over the years. Each drum had a gold plaque that read Tribute to Buddy Rich by Bob Grauso. The picture of the set was like a promo shot. Not much in the way of vintage gear, I did buy a couple of cymbals at a decent price. She was asking 4,000 for the tribute set(to rich for my blood). Hard to put a value on something like that, I felt like she was still emotionally attached to the set. She said she came up with the price through an expert. She said she has shopped them around to some people she still has contacts with. Just seemed pretty high.

Despite their pedigree I think the fact that they aren't typical Fibes (since they have wood shells) and aren't Buddy's sizes either, that $4000 will be a tough sell for those.

If it were a copy of the Fibes kit that Buddy actually did play, or at least a Buddy configured WMP set, I'd think it would generate more excitement from collectors.

Still, just my own opinion and you never know....

The red set is not for sale and the other one is a little too expensive for me.

Absolutely correct K. O. ! As a "tribute" set, it is not of much value to a Buddy freak/collector. Furthermore, Buddy's actual Fibes set was COF... Fibes never made a WMP model for him. Those drums still exist. Donn Bennett has them. THOSE drums are of value to a Buddy collector of course, as they were Buddy's actual drums... but probably an extremely hard sell at the price Donn is asking, thus... they are still available. I don't think she will ever get $4000.00 for that set either. There's just no market/demand for them... at that price anyway.
