And Blair....NO - I'm not going to gold plate the hardware. I'm retired now and I have to watch what I spend more closely. And...I like the way the chrome hardware looks. I have two other sets of bd inlay for this kit...Silver Sparkle and Green Sparkle. I think the silver would look nice.

Mike - later on down the road...if I still have this kit and want to have it painted....again...I may have the paint supplier mix some paint to match the original Cadi Green tom and take all the shells to the painter.....again. He would give me a good deal too....so it might be worth it in the long run.

Was joking on the gold plate...that would cost a fortune....

I did think the was you 'joking' - but in the back of my mind I thought maybe you were hinting that I'd better get on with the plating like I originally planned.

I looked at the cost and it made me flinch a bit I tell you. As I said though...I do like the chrome and green look too.....and it's more reasonably priced.

If and when you repaint have your guy make up enough to do the shells x's 2. If you add more shells or need touchups you have it. Suppliers change, color pigments vary from batch to batch. So really each time you go to mix that color it can vary even if the formula is well documented. ;)

Thanks - yes. My paint supplier mixed an automotive base coat and my painter (an automotive painter - it's the first time he's painted drum shells) added a Clear Coat of some kind.

I sent my painter a photo of the tom with the other three drums. He felt sorry for me and has offer to paint the drum.....again....no charge.

I don't think I can do that to him....he's in business and it's not his fault - he just paints the drum with the paint I supply. I told him I will think about it and maybe have him paint all four drums. The drums are in a storage locker for now (not a Storage Wars locker guys haha). We're moving to another city and it would be expensive to take advantage of the painter after we move. I'll post here if I decide to repaint. The paint isn't expensive - it's just a lot of work and care taking the hardware and badges off the drums....I don't like removing the badges. I suppose I could tape over the badges? After all, the paint under the badges would be a close Green.

What do you think? Is it possible to get a smooth paint job up to and around the badges? Or....would you remove the badges??

Thoughts please....and your experience with this if you've done it before with good OR bad results???

I haulled the drums out of storage - took all the hardware off including the badges of all four drums. Didn't like to take them off but it's much easier for the painter and will probably be a better paint job.

I have all the drums taped off.....inside, all the holes and edges - just waiting for the paint supplier to mix me a couple of litres of paint...more than I need but it's nice to have spare paint.....in this lot.
