Ludwig Stainless Steel Octaplus Kit

Loading...

Hey, I've got a line on a 70s (?) Ludwig Stainless Steel Octaplus Kit... I need some ideas on it's value. IF I pick these up, it would be only to flip.

It don't seem like too long ago someone had a set on here available.

From the pictures I've seen, it looks like a few minor parts and a little TLC is all it will take to restore them. No major dents or other issues.

Thanks,

Bill

I drooled over those back in the day! At that time I would have traded my sister for them.

Rik,

I drooled just over the Octaplus kit when it first came out in the early 70s. But in SS? Yes, it's worth drooling over! :)

If it's a kit with regular two headed toms you should be in the green. A kit with concert toms is another story entirely though...

That is correct. Here is a link to Gary's old thread...

Looks like I'll need to do a little more research. The set I've got a line on has the concert toms (like Gary's in the above post) and not the double-headed ones.

Like I said, this would be a flip only, so if I can't get 'em at a reasonable price I won't get them. Simple as that...

I did a little research while waiting on some file transfers.

I found this site:

http://ludwigstainlesssteeldrums.com/

According to information on this site, "less than 5 complete stainless steel Octa-Plus sets" were ever shipped from the Ludwig factory (which matches information from Gary's thread), and only ONE went out with double-headed toms.

So, yes, Slingalud, the double-headed toms would be much more rare... but one of only "less than five" seems a lot rarer than "another story entirely though."

In any event, this is all very interesting...

hi guys i tell you if i had room i would still have theses bad boys, to me they sounded as good as good gets, but the down side is no one want them too big, a select group, maybe some collectors a few players, the eastern influence offered me a g just for the 2 bd's, at big bucks a kit in excellent shape with all correct hardware is very hard to find numbers matching there are a lot of orphan kits out here, there's a ss guru! ill have to look him up again hes into documenting them, good luck but there are only 4or 5 kits known to of been made at ludwig so there's something to that number unless the same ones are resurfacing there are some odd ball kits out there i know of 1, i sold my kit first for 2750 than 9 monts later he bought the rest of it so it totaled out to be 6500..with stands hats 5 cymbals and snare delivered to guy up north ....the appraisal was at 10k + from the ss guru
