Hey guys! I'm glad I found this place and look forward to browsing the threads here and engaging in some conversation with you all. I am a drummer and I collect and restore vintage and high end drums. Me and my father own a music store way down south in Alabama. I'm coming to you today with a question about the Ludwig Black Beauty. Yesterday, I purchased a brand new black beauty. I opted for the 14" x 5" w/ tube lugs and die cast hoops. This drum is a peach but I noticed something about it. The snare side hoop is slightly bent inwards going in towards the snare beds. This causes it to rock if I place the hoop on a flat surface. I know that some hoops and shells are made this way to accommodate the snare wires. My question to you is, is this the way the hoop is supposed to be or did I get a warped hoop? I need someone to clear this up for me as I spent good money on the drum and would like to resolve the issue ASAP if it is indeed a faulty hoop. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

can you post a picture of the rim in question?
Welcome to the forum!
Where in LA (lower Alabama) are you? I'm way down south in Mississippi and would love to visit you music store some time...especially if you have some vintage drums. Cool1

I will post a picture when I get home tonight. It may be too subtle to tell from a picture but I will do my best to capture it. By "way down", I meant in comparison to other states in the US. I am actually located in Huntsville, which is in north Alabama. Spent some time in Tuscaloosa as well. Also, I guess I should say we own a guitar shop. We sell guitars, amps, PA, accessories. I run my drum business out of my house. My dad repairs guitars and other stringed instruments. He has also been doing custom builds for many years. They have a pretty decent following here in Huntsville. If your ever up in Huntsville, come check us out. https://www.facebook.com/pages/T-Shepards-Discount-Music/204676720595?fref=ts
Welcome to the forums! Look forward to seeing some photos of your kits.

So upon further inspection, it looks like the shell itself is also slightly curved in toward the snare bed. I'm going to go ahead and assume that because the shell also does this, it is designed that way and not a warped hoop. I'm going to head over to the picture thread and upload some pics of my hoard as soon as I figure out how to attach images on here. Thanks everyone.
Something doesn't sound right to me...a "slightly bent inwards hoop" and a "slightly curved shell"!?!? Have you checked to see if the heads fit evenly? Pics may help when you get them posted.
