Did anyone ever find out which drums Billy Lewis Used? That's the Mickey sound I tried to match in the day. My 14 Club Date FT just fell short on Steppin Stone.
That was my first look at me play drums moment that worked. "Hold the tempo and don't rush the drum break"!

I hereby tell Dennis Wilson taught Micky how to play which is ironic cuz they both had a very unique style.
That's an urban legend.Dennis Wilson didn't teach him how to play.
Mickey took a few lessons from Hal Blaine and Earl Palmer at the beginning and then studied with John Carlos.
Mickeys set up came about as the result of a childhood ailment that left his right leg weakened as result of that illness.He had a hard time playing the bass drum,so Carlos suggested he play lefty.
Micky soon combined left and right hand set up and plays a version of open handed/lefty.
So Dennis had zero to do with Mickeys training.He learned from the best in L.A.

I once thought about a Monkee tribute band but could not find a shirt even close to one they all wore, I think they are the coolest. I still think a Monkee tribute band can be a fun project. I already have the bell bottoms, just need THAT SHIRT!!!!!!!!!!!!!Cool1

With the untimely passing of Davy Jones, we of that generation are ripe for a Monkees tribute band. I'm sure you could fill the seats, especially if you find a Hendrix Experience tribute band to open for you!

No better teachers than Hal and Earl, thats for sure.. unless Krupa and Rich are thrown in the mix.
As far as more recent drummers goes, or at least within the past 35 years Dusty Watson is as good as it gets, hes THE man!

We do give credit Ringo was a left handed player that played a right handed kit and open handed.

I have a few Ideas for you on how to get the double breasted shirt, First thing you can do is contact the Television Network that had broadcast thier television show, and see if they have one in the prop room they would be willing to sell, Film companies do this all the time( I have memorbilaia from the Movie Tombstone but what I purchased I paid a pretty penny for!) if thats a no go the easiest thing you can do is find a photograph
of the shirt preferrrabley in color and go to a Costume Maker or anyone that makes custom clothing, Belive it or not it wouldnt be as much as you think to have one made,
But becarefull whom you deal with on clothing makers, I would look at getting someone who makes re-enactment clothing for civil war reenactors since the majority of the jackets are double breasted ( these were for Officers) and these are in high demand still today by reenactors. I would even be be ballsey enough to contact Mr Dolenz Mananger or Publisist and see if they would be willing to donate a shirt for the cause, of a tribute band, remember flattery will get you everywhere and offer to pay for all shipping costs etc. You will be surprised on how far you may get with the hollyweird people. If theres anything I can help you with to get you a shirt eathier orgional or otherwise let me know and drop me a line. I do know several clothing makers and costume designers who do this for a side line work. If I can give you a hand let me know...Rob
