this is why I quit rewrapping Downbeat kits with the "black oyster" wrap they sell today. Blue oyster would be more descriptive of the color.
I have 5 sheets that I won't be using because it bugs the hell out of me, no way near "black oyster".

Ringo did what Gene Krupa did in his generation for kids growing up during the 60's - popularize the drums and inspire many of them to pick up the drumsticks! And, of course, The Beatles had a PROFOUND influence on pop culture, pop music and the music industry.Check out the beginning of this clip from the "Professional Drum Shop's 50 Years" DVD trailer:http://youtu.be/wCR9F4Dhmkg?t=3m30sFor me, one of my "bucket list" items was putting together my very own Ringo tribute set. While it's not totally authentic, it's pretty close. Anyway, I can't wait to see the real deal next month in L.A.
Your drums had a profound effect on me! Truly awesome . . . Bowing

I totally agree with you, drumfactory. The original Black Oyster wrap was much deeper, richer and detailed looking. I understand the same folks are manufacturing the wrap, but obviously not using the same raw materials. I do know when I first received my re-covered shells back in the mail, I was somewhat disappointed with the wrap. But, it is what it is and at least the drums sound great!

Man I guess but it still looks pretty sweet in own right. And isn't that why all original stuff is so valuable. If we could just spit out exact copies all day long there would be no point to "vintage".
I think your kit looks fantastic and it's the closest I have seen without being the "real" thing.
One of the best concerts I saw was Ringo and his all star band at the Iowa state fair several years ago. My neighbor was a dj and we got tons of free tickets and cd's. Almost did not go, good thing we did. He had Todd Rungren, Joe Walsh, Timothy B Smith, Nils Lofgren and Julian Lennon. Dont need to say anymore.
I have no idea why Kook still wants to trash arguably the most influential drummer In history? Just start asking random people who "Ringo" is and you will get more correct answers across generations than any other single named drummer. "Animal" would probably be second as a matter of fact.
It never has mattered who was better. Who cares? It's all subjective anyway. To flatly dismiss Ringo is, however, ridiculous.
By the way, "Dennis" would possibly get a response including the term "menace" and "Hal" would get you a movie reference.
By the way, Drummer 808, I think that kit looks great and I like the color for what it is.

I've never been able to understand how anyone can argue about art or music being "bad" or "good," or "better" or "worse" than another example of art or music. Worse when someone equates difficulty with "good"
Also, I recall Dave Weckl incorporating Ringo's side-to-side hi-hat technique into his own playing for certain grooves. Cool1
Abbey Road and Let It Be were my bibles as a young drummer starting out. I went on to study music on many levels and my reference points changed to drummers like Gadd and Colaiuta. In recent years I have found just as much joy in listening to all of Ringo's work as I have any drummer. His idiosyncratic but always musical interpretation of any track he graced stands up well, all these years later. Ringo made the Beatles a great band. I admire his easygoing nature and always calm demeanour and often attempt to channel some of it in my dealings with other band members. "What would Ringo do?" Encourage; support; keep great time - have a laugh. A great musician. Peace & Love indeed.
