Help!!! Rogers 380 Chicken Farm Find with wrap issues. Last viewed: 9 minutes ago

Loading...

I seriously bought this from a lady on a chicken farm outside Phoenix the other day. It was 80 bucks and even though they are not "real" Rogers I thought they might make for a cool next project. Plus it had a really cool Stanople ride and Ludwig Standard Hi Hats both made in Switzerland so I figured what the heck. Now the bad news: I am not sure if the wrap is faded from the sun or has some sort of calcification/mold/lime problem. There is like a thick white film on certain panels of the drum that look fantastic for about 5 minutes after I hand wax them but then return to the white filmy blurred out mess in the pictures. Sure does not look like any typical sun fading I have come across in the past. Any suggestions comments or insight into the drums would be great!

Almost looks like some kind of chemical or? something "hazed" the wrap? Like something (petrolium or alcohol based maybe) that spilled on them? Did you wipe the shells down with a cloth and water first? Does the white seem chalky like a film (can you scratch it with a fingernail?) or just in the wrap itself?

Cool project none the less and I'm sure you'll be able to get them looking good soon.

Glenn.

You could try giving them the old Novus treatment to see if it helps any...

Thanks for the input:

I actually tried Windex and the some hand rubbed Blitz Wax and it still keeps coming back. Have not just tried water yet but will give it a go. On parts of the drum I can scratch the stuff off and on others parts it does not seem to do anything. Might go for the Novus as well. The wrap looks so freaking cool wet. Almost like an orange creamsicle and there are no tears or anything like that and oddly enough the heads cleaned up to almost brand new. There are no holes or slits anywhere in the wrap which will make it an even bigger shame if I cannot bring it back.

If they were mine I would use them for an experiment I have been wanting to do. That would be wet sanding and polishing with an electric buffer. There was a thread going earlier with a 20 minute video, a guy in England did it to a sky blue pearl floor tom. His results looked great, Ive been want to try that ever since.

Thank you!

I was thinking about the wet sanding. I' see if I can hunt down that video. Hair dryer idea is interesting as well.

skapunk, by the way, cool cymbals! I think you made a great purchase, I would have done it also.

Now were gonna egg you on to wet sand those tubs, see what you got yourself into!

Thank you!
