Anyone here in the Bellingham Washington State area? Last viewed: 6 hours ago

I'm asking because I'm going to possibley be taking some drums across the boarder from Canada into the USA. I have a prospective buyer that may be flying to Bellingham Wa. to meet me and buy the drums = saves the shipping cost.

My concern is when I am crossing into the USA I want to be able to tell the Customs officials where I'm going......they don't like it when you say I don't know. I could say I'm just going for a drive but that is a little sketchy considering I will be transporting a full set of valuable Valje conga drums.....$5000 or more in value. I want to tell them I'm going to meet a friend to play some music and I want to be able to tell them where. It's not a huge lie.....a little one....that's going to be able to help my friend and save him huge on shipping.....$500-$600 or maybe more. The drums were made in the USA so Duty charges don't apply.

So I need help from someone here that may live in the area to suggest a meeting place that would be believable in case the USA Customs officials ask me where I'm going.

The deal has not been completed yet. The buyer wants to call me tonight to go over the details. It would be good to have this part sorted out before he calls.

You could tell them you are meeting a friend who goes to Western Washington University in Bellingham. Don't say you are playing at a bar, since that is work and needs a visa.

I just went to Vancouver for the day from Seattle to visit a cousin working there. No problems. Keep it simple.

Now you will need a passport to drive across the border, not like in times past.

Yes - I know about the passport. I have mail sent to CanAmer Freight in Blaine Wa. often - in fact I have some drum stuff going there now. When I buy on eBay sometimes sellers won't ship International so I use that as a shipping address in the USA - it works. Lots of Canadians use places like that to have their mail sent to - it saves a lot in shipping costs and CanAmer only charges $3-$6 to hold mail........indefinately. Sometimes they will charge more for a large item like a vehicle motor. I have a friend here that shipped a new pickup truck motor from Los Angeles to CanAmer. I don't know what the shipping cost was but he saved a bundle by not having it shipped across the boarder. CanAmer Freight only charged him a few bucks to have it stored there for pickup.....around $50 or less I think it was.

I agree about keeping it simple - it's just I needed an address. Washington State Univ. sounds like a plan.
