How cool!! What a rare find!I see old MIJ toms in horrid shape at antique malls around town.The prices blow my mind $100, $75....do people really pay those prices??Maybe I need to buy a booth, haha.Congrats!

I also see badly beaten Beatles albums for $40-50 at antique places that are worth no more than $5 on a good day. The Beatles sold billions of them. Find one in mint or sealed or near mint, then you got something.

So...wouldn't it be a BR model then?

Well, a "true" Buddy Rich model would have 16 lugs. A couple of possibilities:

This could be a Student Model that had the clip-on hoops switched to double flange hoops at one time (these student models often came with solid shells) ;

-Or- It could be a "special order" where the owner didnt want the extension brackets;

The most likely scenario is that Slingerland received so many requests for RK snare drums without extension snares, that they began offering them (not in catalogs, though). I have owned at least eight RK's without brackets (all cloud badge), so they definitely made lots of them.

This drum is really cool and the large oval badge makes it less common.

Yeah, I've encountered several student models with solid maple shells. Often, they have a number written inside (might be 157). In catalogs, they specify three ply shells for these but lots of them left the factory with clip style hoops and a solid maple shell. The Buddy Rich models only came in 7 and 8 inch depths with 16 lugs.

ladies and gentlemen, here is the final product of a fulfilling find. thanks for all the positive feedback. its been an exciting 24 hours to say the least. like i usually do, i used EvapoRust on all the metal parts to remove rust and corrosion. i absolutely love that product. i used a motorcycle shield/glass creaner, that has lubricant scratch resistant properties in it, to clean the wrap. i tapped and chased all the threads in the hardware so everything is moving like new. i used a local bees wax on the rounded bearing edges. i used Remo Vintage A for the batter and a Remo Hazy for the res' head. and i picked up a set of Puresound 30 snare wires. ive never used the 30 count before but i wanted to see what it sounded like. and im pretty happy with the wires.

it sounds great, looks cool and old, its gonna be a great player. we are hitting the road again in two days. headed towards niagra falls ny. i cant wait to hear this drum in a big room.

thanks for watching.

peace and love
